Competitive Swim Lessons
Dates and Times
We have chosen to start swim lessons a week later this year, in hopes that the weather is warmer and the swim team season running longer. Lessons will run 5 days a week from June 13th through July 15th. July 18th-20th will be our rain makeup days. Our swim team coaches, led by Ruthy O’Malley will be teaching the three 30 min sessions starting at 10:30am, then at 11:00am and 11:30am. We are flipping the times this year so the younger/beginner swimmers will be swimming in the first time slot with the older and more advanced kids swimming later.
Swim Lesson Levels
The lessons are organized according to age and ability. The swim lesson levels are explained in detail in the “Swim Lesson Brochure” located on the Saybrook Pool website (www.saybrookpool.com) or on the Saybrook Sharks website at (www.saybrooksharks.org). When filling out your registration forms, please indicate to your best knowledge your child’s current level. If they are taking lessons now, please have the instructor advise you based on the criteria on the brochure. We will be placing the swimmers into groups based on age and ability. You should hear from us in mid-May regarding your swimmers exact time slot. Please note, that our goal is to keep the kids in the same groups, however, some changes may occur early on if it is in the best interest of your child. We will contact you personally if this is the case.
Swim lesson registration is a flat $150 for the five weeks. If you have older children that participate in swim team, and you would like you swim lesson swimmer to participate in the Swim Team Socials (Kick off Party, Bagel/Donut Breakfast, and Shark/Pasta Party) there is an optional $5 social fee per swimmer. Please note that this year we are reserving the Beginner Level 1 class for children that are at least 3 years of age. Children that are two years of age can be placed in the class only after registration is complete and if there is still room in the class.
Swim Team Evaluations
On April 10th from 2-3pm we will be having a swim team evaluation at the Kroehler YMCA training pool located on 34 S. Washington Street, Naperville. This evaluation is intended for any new swim team member who is 8 years of age or younger who has interest in joining the team but was not a member of the team last year. If you were in swim lessons last year and have any question as to whether your child is ready for team then we ask that you contact me and bring them to the evaluation.
If your child is older than 7 or you are put on a waiting list, swim team coaches and lifeguards will be available for private lessons throughout the summer. A flyer listing the available teachers and their contact information will be posted at the pool this summer.
